Greeting:

You should greet people with a handshake. Women shoud initiate the greeting. 

You do not need to greet strangers on the street, but a friendly smile is good.

Polite Phrases:

Most common phrase is "Guten Tag", which means "Good Day".

Another phrase is "Hallo", which means "Hello".

Languages:

Most common language is German.

The dialects vary by region. 

English is also spoken, and understood widely.

Gestures:

DO NOT chew gum while talking. 

DO NOT have your hands in your pockets while speaking with someone.

Cross your legs over eachother.

No feet on furniture.

Squeeze your thumb (tuck your thumb in a clenched fist) to wish for

    good luck instead of crossing fingers.

DO NOT walk on other peoples' lawns.
